New Year's Poem

Instead of writing a list of resolutions, I wrote a poem...

The year has finally ended
A new leaf has been turned
Today I sit here, looking back
At all the things I’ve learned

My contemplating isn’t
Bound to last year alone
But to the past two years, indeed,
The love and heartache known

The hardships that I have faced
The tears that I have cried
The trials that I’ve struggled through
The happiness denied

Means nothing when I compare
To all the good I’ve found
The knowledge – truths – that I have gained
The loved ones, all around

It’s true, about the past years,
They have been hell indeed
But it can’t, won’t!, be denied:
They have been what I need

It’s because of what transpired
That I’ve found this new life
That I have this happy family
That I’m once again a wife

So, future, bring what you will!
We’ll face all that you send!
Together, with God in our hearts,
We’ll see through to the end
